Today's trauma - MMR

Did you watch tonight's "Private Practice"? Well, my daughter is not immunized for MMR as yet. This episode did a great job of scaring the bejezers out of me. Having a daughter with multiple food allergies, I'm worried about how all these immunizations are doing a job on my daughters immune system. After all this is what the allergies are about, the immune system. The problem is that the MMR and other vaccines and its relationship to autism is what is scaring me the most. Its not that I don't want to give it to her. I'd rather split it up or give it to her later when she is older and her body is more mature. I need to do more research and started doing so today from several sources, including Dr. Sears Vaccination Schedule. The egg allergy (which my daughter has) also scares me but since research has shown that it is less of a concern I'm a bit less concerned about that. If the episode was written to scare you - it worked. I was a VERY annoyed that it was very one sided. The storyline was only geared towards the "Vaccinations are totally fine" attitude.

What do you know about this? What are your thoughts?

Food Allergies with a 2 year old in a preschool program.

So, my daughter, only 2, has ventured into a under 2.9 program since September 2008. Well, the food allergy thing was one of my top most concerns. There were of course more, how will they help her? Will she enjoy it? I don't want her to be "forced" or "taught". I just want her to have fun and learn by play, will they do that? Will they yell at her? Will they discipline her in a way I don't want them to? Will she learn bad habits from other kids? Etc etc.

Well, the food thing...

Long story. More to come..

Introduction Post about Being Indian and Food Allergies, Etc.

This is my introductory post....

What is this about?

I want to log about several different things... being a Indian mom, in a mixed marriage, in suburbia, with a young child with allergies with Indian parents who don't always understand.... AND being a mom who is trying to support these life items.

Lets start..

Indian mom - I struggle with my own Indian identity - I'm Indian, no doubt, but Indian means so many different things. I want to inject Indian values into my daughter, but not all, so that's one thing.

Mixed marriage - I'm in a mixed (American/Indian) marriage. So, I clearly had a love marriage, when in a generation, (first generation Indian) this was a difficult transition for my family to make.

Suburbia - surrounded by a lot of White middle-class Americans.

The biggest of all, a young child (2) with multiple food allergies - UGH, where did these come from? Why did they happen? How can I handle these? How can we fix this in her? How can I get support for this? How can I support research on this? How do I make the right decisions that affect my child's physical and mental future! Need I say more?
